Eric's collega in Southampton heeft het over vissekoppen als ie het over de inwoners van Portsmouth heeft, de strijd tussen de twee havensteden is als die tussen Amsterdam en Rotterdam. Wij hebben stiekum de voorkeur voor Portsmouth!

Eric's collegue in Southampton calls the citizens of Portsmouth skates. The battle between the two harbour cities will probably last forever. We secretely vote for Portsmouth!

De toren van Portsmouth doet ons denken aan de Skytower in Auckland, maar deze is toch echt wat lager dan de Rotterdamse Euromast!

The Portsmouth Spinnaker Tower has the look of the Auckland Skytower, just like Portsmouth Harbour feels a bit like Auckland Harbour!

De HMS Victory, waarmee admiraal Nelson de beroemde zeeslag vanTrafalgar won, nog altijd de trots van Groot-Brittannie!

Dit is een ander verhaal. De Mary Rose, vlaggeschip van Henry de Achtste, zonk een kleine 500 jaar terug op slechts 2 km van de rede van Portsmouth. In 1982 werd het in de klei begraven wrak gelicht en sindsdien krijgt het 24 uur per dag een douche van water en was om verrotting tegen te gaan. In 2011 zal de boot eindelijk gedroogd worden. Tot die tijd blijft de douche in het donker doorgaan, slechts verstoord door macabere schijnwerpers en enthousiaste toeristen. De Foto boven is van het model in het museum, foto onder is het echte wrak, niet flitsen alstublieft!

This is another story. The Mary Rose, the favorite ship of Henry the Eight, sank only one mile out of it's docks in Portsmouth, nearly 500 years ago. In 1982 the wreck was raised from the clay seabed and since then it get's a 24/7 shower of water and wax to stop the rotting proces. In 2011 the ship will be dried, so they say. Until that time the shower in the dark will continue, only disturbed by ghostly beams of lights and excited tourists.
